With regard to the Most Improved flag, Ms. Smith will write a letter to Bill Noaks of Ruffian inviting him to join the C&C 35 Association and to come to the Banquet to receive the Mackinac flag.  As a member of the Association, he would be eligible for the Most Improved Award as well.  If he declines to join the Association, the Most Improved Award will go to the next-placed boat. Bud Harrison will provide Ms. Smith with Mr. Noaks’ address.  Mr. Harrison will have the plates made for the trophies for the standings.

*  Commodore Padilla introduced a discussion re: IRC rating system.  This system is widely used in Europe and especially by races sanctioned by the Royal Ocean Racing Club.  The Chicago Yacht Club used the system last year for the Chicago Mac and liked it generally.  It is perceived to be objective and easily administered.  It is being discussed by Bayview for the Southhampton course boats for 2005.  If it works out, it may be adopted for the Bayview Mackinac overall.  The C&C 35 class would still race as level-rated in this system.  Some questions re: the method of measurement and calculations for rating would need to be worked out if it is adopted.

*  The City of Port Sanilac has approached Bayview to have a buoy located off the Port Sanilac harbor which would be a mark on the course left to starboard, to allow shoreside spectators to view the boats during a town festival.  After discussion, it was felt that this is not in the best interests of the race or participating sailors and should not be recommended by the Association.  Commodore Padilla to convey the Association’s position to the Bayview race management.

*  Commodore Padilla has been approached by UK to install Harken furling systems on the C&C 35s.  It is believed that if enough boats wish to buy this system a discount could be managed.  The system would be used for cruising only, not racing and does not necessitate a change in ratings.  Those boats interested in obtaining the system include Bravo, Contender, Regardless, Siochail, Walloon, Legacy, and Firewater.   Commodore Padilla will obtain further information and costs.

*  Ms. Smith gave details on the awards banquet.  It will be held at Bayview on January 22, 2005 with cocktails at 6:30 and dinner at 7:30.  Cost is $28 per person for a buffet including crab legs, roast beef, fish, chicken, pasta, potatoes, assorted salads, vegetables, and desserts.  Cash bar set-up is $45.  Reservations are to be made through Diana Smith at by January 15, 2005.

    • Mr. Tenkel will arrange for door prizes and raffles
    • Mr. Harrison and Mr. Hellenbart will arrange for awards (flags and trophies)
    • Any nominees for the Plucked Chicken award are to be made to Mr. Morphew.

*  Mr. Hellenbart announced that the Fun and Fabulous Day of Curling will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2005.  Cost is $30 per person for curling and dinner (cash bar).  Cost for either dinner or curling alone is $20.  Mr. Hellenbart has reserved 6 sheets which requires 48 people for curling.  All skippers are encouraged to invite crews, families, and friends to attend so the event can continue.  Reservations should be made to Mr. Hellenbart by the night of the awards banquet, January 22.  Additional e-mail reminders and flyers will be sent out to rally the attendance.

New Business/Round Table

  • A discussion was held re: creating a crew database to be posted on the web site so crew not racing on their own boats on a given date can be contacted by other skippers needing crew.  It was agreed that the Association roster would be kept up-to-date on the web site so skippers can contact other skippers for crew contact information if a crew need arises.  It was agreed that the Corinthian Rules of Conduct would be followed re: “stealing” crew.  Ms. Smith directed to send all information, including minutes and roster to Mr. Ragan for inclusion on the web site.
  • A discussion was introduced by Ms. Smith re: the maintenance of a scrap book of pictures of the class.  All boats would be invited to submit photos and any press coverage involving the class would be included.  Discussion tabled-no decision reached.
  • Ms. Smith asked for the class’s support for the 2005 Women’s Invitational at Bayview.  It was agreed that more time to prepare would have put more boats out on the course and that, given the time in 2005, more C&C 35s would participate if at all possible.
  • Ms. Smith announced that she has accepted a job with Offshore Sailing School in Ft. Myers, FL and will be moving there mid-January.  The move will necessitate a replacement secretary for the remainder of her term.  Mr. Morphew was suggested as a good candidate.
